To Whom It May Concern,
I am very proud and honored to nominate Whitney Miller for the U.S.T.A. Presidential Award for Coach of the Year. A former World Champion, Whitney Miller is a tumbling coach at the Gymnastics Academy of Rockford, IL (GAR), and during her distinguished nine-year career has coached 25 athletes to National Championships as a direct result of her dedicated work. Last June, Ms. Miller’s Tumbling Team won seven National Championships, and took top trophies for the Intermediate Team and Sub Advance Team as well. During her time as coach, GAR has grown in stature and the achievements of her athletes are represented in many of the plaques lining the walls of the GAR facility.
As a coach, Ms. Miller focuses all of her skill and experience on helping her athletes learn, grow and perform at their highest levels of potential. Ms. Miller is more than a coach, however. She is a caring teacher, mentor, role model and inspiration to all of her athletes. She gives 100% to all of her endeavors, and through her passion for excellence motivates her athletes to do likewise – to give 100% of their very best at all times, and in all situations, whether in practice drills or in competition. Ms. Miller’s athletes are always focused, disciplined, and very professional in their demeanor, behavior and performance at every regional, state and national competition.
Through her coaching process, Ms. Miller teaches her athletes how to embody true discipline, perseverance and determination. With firm guidance and a work motto of “Don't settle on being good but strive to be great”, she gives her athletes the building blocks to become great athletes using practice and focus, strength training and conditioning, all of which help them perfect their physical and mental abilities. In addition, she sets educational standards for her athletes, thereby emphasizing the importance of intellectual strength as well. No detail is too small for her attention, as her coaching goal is to ensure that her athletes have all the personal resources necessary to do their very best, and so learn to feel pride in themselves and to believe in themselves.
Through this process of focused effort, self-development, and performance experience, each athlete acquires real self-esteem, confidence and a disciplined work ethic - all traits that will carry into every area of our athletes lives both now, while in school, and later as adults in the community. Whitney Miller does more than teach our children to be good athletes; she teaches them to be great people!
For all of these reasons, I am proud to nominate Whitney Miller for the U.S.T.A. Presidential Award - Coach of the Year. Thank you for your consideration.
